HI Prieto Teachers and Community Members,
The Prieto Social Justice Committee was formed earlier this year as the political climate in our city, state, and country has grown increasingly hostile to communities like ours. At a school and district level, we continue to see resources taken from our communities while policies and rhetoric at the national level threatens the stability of communities like ours. Our goal as a JS committee is to organize and be prepared to support and protect our students and their families.
One of the biggest issues impacting our community is the very real fear of detainment and deportation of our community members and so, we've been organizing around immigrant rights issues. We believe that it's crucial that all people are trained to know what their rights are in the case that they are confronted by police or ICE agents.
We will use this forum to communicate general information. For meeting minutes, please see staff emails and/or sign up for the Remind group to get information via text (instructions in this Week's Happenings).
Below is the flyer from our first community meeting.
